Shree Shripad Shrivallabha
1st incarnation of lord Dattatreya in Kaliyuga (1320-1350):
Shree Shripada Shrivallabha was born to Sri Appalaraja Sharma (of Aapastambha Shakha Brahmin) and Sumathi Devi on Bhadrapada Shuddha Chavithi( Ganesh Chaturthi). It is said that one day lord Dattatreya himself disguised as a ‘Bhikshuka’ went to ask for Bhikshe around noon time to the house of Sri Appalaraja Sharma. His family was busy preparing for the Shraddha (Yearly Ritual to pay Homage to departed souls).
Sumathi Devi wife of Appalaraja Sarma offered food to this ‘BHIKSUKA’ before even feeding the invited Brahmins, considering him as lord Dattatreya at that instant. Lord Dattatreya disguised as ‘BHIKSUKA’ felt very happy and offered her a boon. Sumathi requested Lord Dattatreya to bless her with a son.
Lord Dattatreya blessed her with wishes and said that “She will give birth to a son who will be Guru to all”. Both Husband & wife were very happy and in course of time, Shree Shripad Shrivallabha was born.
Shree Shripad Shrivallabha finished studies of Vedas and Shastras by the age of Seven and after his "Upanayan" (Munji) he started giving discourses (lectures) on these Vedas and Shastras. His parents thought of getting him married at the age of 16, but he was not interested & told his parents that he is married to "Vairagya-sthree” and he should be called "Shriya-Vallabha". Thus the name "Shripada Vallabha".
Shree Shripad Shrivallabha left his parents and home to reach Kashi on a pilgrimage. On pilgrimage, Shree Shripad Shrivallabha went to Badri, Kedar and Gokarna. Shree Shripad Shrivallabha stayed for 4 months in Shri Shaila mountain and then finally stayed in Kuravpur on the banks of Krishna river.
